Vídeo para o espectáculo

Foi precisamente há um ano atrás que os actores Filipe Araújo e Susana C. Gaspar chegaram a Lampedusa para recolher material para o espectáculo. Arrancava então o processo de dramaturgia. Partilhamos hoje o vídeo final que integra o espectáculo, no qual estão presentes muitas das imagens dessa semana na ilha.

«From February to April 2011, 23 thousand Tunisians reached the tiny island of Lampedusa, Italy

The Italian Government called this event  an invasion, a barbaric horde, a biblical exodus, a humanitarian tsunami. But nobody spoke about the stories of these young people.

From the refugee camps of Manduria, Mineo and Palazzo San Gervasio (Southern Italy), five of these young people tell us about the constriction of their whole life under the regime of Ben Ali and about the unexpexcted and groundbreaking revolution that made the President flee. Then the possibility to leave, -: for someone a long-lasting dream, for others just a sudden decision.

Those are the best years: the ones of a generation that lived without freedom for too long that now has decided to take it all.»

A Nigerian man sits on a bed in Lampedusa’s transit centre. He arrived by boat with his pregnant wife, who was rushed off to hospital in Sicily to give birth. He and his wife will be moved to temporary housing on the mainland while their asylum or protection requests are evaluated.

A todo o momento chegam embarcações sobrelotadas de gente que arrisca tudo para refazer a vida na Europa. Mas há quem nunca chegue a desembarcar, muitos morrem afogados. "Clandestini" é uma reportagem de Margarida Neves de Sousa, com imagem de Rui Rodrigues e edição de Pedro Pessoa.»

70 photos, taken with his mobile phone from March 28 to April 17, 2011, show the journey as "harraga" (clandestine) of Ilyess, 30, a native of Zarzis (Tunisia). The crossing to Lampedusa, between emergence and host, until he reaches the camp of Trapani, where he lived for 13 days "like Guantanamo" (as he says): not enough water for showers to be used by 700 people, escape attempts initially denied by the police, the constant uncertainty about his fate.

Ilyess mobile phone photographs the vessel carrying migrants, the host family met in Lampedusa and above all the camp of Trapani, which he defines as his "Guantanamo": the food (given from behind a grid for security issues), phone cards, relax moments playing football or dancing, the hunger strikes and protests and finally the temporary residence permit for humanitarian protection. The latest images show the Sicilian landscape Ilyess sees through the window of the bus when he is finally free to continue his journey and tries to reach Paris. Ilyess arrived in Paris April 20, 2011.

Milhares de imigrantes ilegais em Lampedusa na Itália envolveram-se em violentos confrontos com a policia. Por causa dos incidentes o ministro do Interior deu já 48 horas para todos os ilegais abandonarem a ilha. Cinquenta mil imigrantes africanos dizem que pior que viver neste centro de acolhimento é ter de regressar a casa.
